01 - The brief

Awareness first

The founder's personal connection to the cause gave us a strong, clear brief from day one: raise awareness and raise money for a disease that so often goes unrecognised. While the charity was founded following a personal loss, the site needed to acknowledge that story gently without being defined by it. The focus had to stay firmly on the cause, helping people understand EBV-HLH and why research matters.

02 - The first impression

Logo-led, content-ready

The client wanted the logo to sit front and centre, so we designed the homepage hero around it. The challenge was making it prominent without it overpowering a clean, modern layout, while still leaving room for meaningful content above the fold. The result gives visitors an instant sense of who the charity is, alongside real information that supports both SEO and a clear user journey.

03 - Brand +ย Tone

Warmth with credibility

With very little existing brand to work from, we built the visual identity out from the logo itself. Its crimson and teal became the core palette, softened with warm cream tones, and paired with DM Serif Display and DM Sans. Together they give the site warmth and credibility: serious enough for a medical cause, human enough for a family-led charity.

04 - Structure +ย Flow

Informing without overwhelming

The site had two jobs: inform and drive donations. It needed to say a lot without overwhelming people. We broke complex medical information into short, digestible sections that explain what EBV-HLH is, why it's so hard to diagnose and why research matters, with clear routes to donate woven through every page so the call to action is never more than a scroll away.

05 - The details

Features with purpose

  • CMS-driven collections for research articles, news, updates and events, so the charity can keep the site fresh without developer support
  • Embedded donation platform for a seamless giving experience
  • A live running total of funds raised, showing supporters the real impact of their donations

06 - The build

Made to grow with the charity

Built in Webflow with a fully structured CMS, the site uses soft page-load and scroll animations throughout to keep things feeling calm and considered. Behind the scenes, we followed Finsweet's Client-First framework for class naming and structure, keeping the build clean, consistent and easy to understand. Every section was designed to be simple for the client to manage and expand, so the site can grow alongside the charity.

07 - The result

A platform for change

The finished site gives EBV-HLH the clear, credible platform it deserves. Complex medical information is now easy to understand, the research being funded is front and centre, and every page gently guides visitors towards supporting the cause. With a CMS the charity can manage independently and a live donation total that shows real impact, the site is more than an online presence. It's a working tool for raising awareness, building a community and funding the research that could help others receive a diagnosis in time.
